The Economic Research and Strategy (ERS) team supports Laurentian Bank's various lines of business, in particular Laurentian Bank Securities and Capital Markets and its clients.

The ERS team conducts specific studies on economic and financial issues, paying special attention to :

  • Current analysis of the global economy, with an emphasis on the Canadian economy
  • Macroeconomic and financial projections
  • Sectorial portfolio strategy recommendations
  • Detailed economic forecasts for Canada and the provinces
  • Analysis of Canadian monetary and fiscal policies

Sébastien Lavoie

Sébastien Lavoie holds a Master's degree in Economics from Université Laval and has been working in the Canadian banking sector for 15 years. He is assuming the direction of LBS' Economic Research Department since the winter of 2014. Sébastien has been analysing economic and financial trends at Laurentian Bank for more than 10 years, contributing to earn a solid reputation in the market. He interacts actively with Laurentian Bank's main lines of businesses and its clients, most notably Capital Markets. Sébastien previously occupied various positions within the financial sector in Toronto, Vancouver and Ottawa. He notably began his career in 2000 as an economist for the Bank of Canada where he developed an expertise on interest rates and inflation. Sébastien is the author of several publications about macroeconomics, public finances and financial markets. In addition, he is called upon by the English and French media to comment on the latest developments.


Luc Lapointe

Luc Lapointe has been active for more than 25 years in macroeconomic research and in the strategic transposition of these analyses to financial markets. He began his career in 1994 as an economist and financial analyst at Montrusco & Associés and has since specialized in asset and currency allocation. He co-founded Sigma Alpha Capital in 2003, where he managed a Global Macro portfolio for nearly 15 years. He also spent a short period as a consultant economist at Otéra Capital where he was able to deepen his knowledge of commercial real estate. At LBCFG, he supports the Chief Economist in macroeconomic analysis and in establishing the economic and financial outlook. He holds a B.A. in Economics and a M.Sc. in Finance.
